Arguably the closest Burley has to a player meriting the nickname "The Beast", Wider is an ominous sight at full pace and is rarely stopped without difficulty. He has a good claim to be the strongest player in the squad in terms of brute strength, an attribute he combines with a direct, rugby league style of running to turn himself into a human battering ram against the opposition. One particularly memorable performance last year saw him take apart and demolish Northallerton's huge prop "Tank" in a game Burley won 17-0. Also a top bloke to have around off the field who frequently attends matches when not playing due to injury etc.
