Burley's first choice Hooker plays more like a back row, constantly getting stuck in and making a nuisance of himself at the rucks and generally being a pain for the opposition (the amount of facial injuries he picks up demonstrate this). His throwing in is generally of a high standard, especially when throwing to taller players such as Schmidt. Committed and a brave scrapper at the breakdown, Tom shows no intention of giving up the 2 shirt this season, and anyone desiring the 1st XV hooker position will have a tough fight to win it from him.
