Burley vs. Ossett 14/10/06

Burley continued their recent good form in beating a strong Ossett side 27-6. Burley started up the slope in confident manor but it was the visitors who opened the scoring with a penalty. The home side replied immediately. Slick handling by the backs released French winger Yann Le Beau who scorched over out wide. Fly Half Richard Parrish converting. Burley continued to dominate but another penalty by Ossett made the half time score 7-6. Now playing down the slope and with James Palfrey-Smith and Mike Taylor winning clean line out ball Burley struck again. In open play the ball came to centre Andrew Bissett. Stepping inside his opposite centre, he continued on an angled run to score a superb try in the right hand corner. More Burley pressure resulted in another try. A high kick by Parrish caused confusion in the Ossett defence and Le Beau scored his second. The Burley scrum although creaking slightly were holding their own against their bigger opponents. Still Burley pressed, and after a controlled driving maul with the visitors defence dragged in, Parrish chipped for the corner where Le Beau collected to stroll over for a magnifique hat trick. Ossett tried desperately to get back into the game but the home sides defence was impregnable. At 22-6 Burley were cruising. With the game won the Ossett prop was caught in possession on his own line and robbed by Parrish who flopped over the line for the final points. A comfortable win and good performances by both forwards and backs.
